Cars: The Lifestyle
My god, are those people smart. And I do mean those people in a deragatory way.
About two months ago (six weeks before the damned movie came out), my then four-year-old started pointing out these odd cars. After remarkably easy research I realized that Disney/Pixar were coming out with a new movie called Cars.
It now invades every corner of my life. From the goody bags I got for his birthday, to the pajamas he just had to have, and the Fruit Loops I gave him this morning--all before the damned thing came out.
We saw it on opening day. It was okay. 7/8 of it went over their heads, I know. I enjoyed it. But it's all they talk about.
They know it is a Happy Meal, and so we HAVE to go to McDonalds to get the cheap piece of crap that comes with it. Thankfully, they don't eat the food, but still!
You cannot convince me that there is not a boardroom somewhere, with only elevator access, where a bunch of people (I'd like to think, only men, but they're not that smart) seeing how they can infect our youth. And damn if they're not perfect at it.
I follow, lemming that I am, but I resent it. I resent that they don't succeed solely because of a great product. I resent that they feel that they have to have insurance commercials and god-knows-what-else to make their case.
And mostly, I resent that I haven't figured out how to tap into that money train!
